  • Kenya exports approximately 5,000 tonnes of chillies each year.
  • Kenya grows some of the finest chillies in the world given the tropical climatic conditions, as the warmer climatic conditions produce hotter chillies.
  • According to various studies, chillies have high nutritional value with a rich source of vitamin C, A, B, iron, potassium, and magnesium.
  • The capsaicin in them contains anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, anti-carcinogenic and analgesic properties. They also help to reduce cholesterol levels in the body, aid in digestion and help relieve migraines, and muscle and joint pain.

Habanero pepper

The habanero is a hot variety of chilli, and as such is regarded as one of the spicer peppers. The fruit is typically about 2-6 centimetres long when ripe and the colour variants are orange and red. Sometimes though, the colour variants of habanero chillies can also be white, brown, yellow and purple. When unripe, the fruit is green.

Birds eye chili

The African Bird’s Eye chilli is a small, thin, ponty and packs quite an intense punch in heat and flavour. They mature red or purple and are about 1 inch in length. Historically, these chillies are found in the African wild, and only recently have they been grown commercially in some parts of the content.

Heat: Hot

The cayenne pepper is a moderately hot, spicy and flavourful chill. It is about 10 – 25cm long, skinny and mostly red-coloured pepper. It’s often curved at the tip and has somewhat rippled skin as pictured.

red serenade chilli

Serenade Chillies, also known as Serrano Chillies, is a large fruity chilli of medium-hot and fleshy. They can be eaten raw, fermented, cooked and even smoked in salads, salsas, sauces, home-smoked dishes, jam making and as a garnish in Asian dishes.  When mature, they can be harvested either green or red.

Heat: Medium Hot

Jalapeño

The jalapeño is a round, firm, smooth fleshed pepper that’s about 5-10cm long and 25 – 38mm wide. This fruit is rich in vitamins A, B, C, K, folate, and potassium. It is also rich in carotene – an antioxidant that may help flight damage to cells.

Heat: Mildly Hot

Packaging

We pack our chillies in either punnets or boxes.

In punnets, each punnet weighs 100g, then packed in larger boxes of 10 punnets per box. When in boxes, each box weighs 1kg.
